To return to the US you need a valid passport. For stays not exceeding 30 days, US passport holders do not require a visa to enter Vanuatu. To enter Vanuatu you need a passport valid for at least six months after the date of your departure, and a return air ticket. Getting a passport is your own responsibility.
If you travel to Vanuatu you will ‘lose’ a day outbound and regain it inbound due to crossing the international dateline.
