ITINERARY

A treat for your senses as you explore this beautiful and delectable region famous not only for its wine, but great gourmet food as well.

DAY 1
On arrival into Adelaide you will be met and transferred to your hotel, the Adelaide Hyatt Regency which is famed for its fine dining experiences, offering a variety of dining styles. From modern Australian to award-winning Japanese cuisine and a sumptuous buffet, the hotel’s dining choices are as diverse as they are innovative. At your leisure this evening to try one of the hotel’s wonderful dining options.

Blake’s presents modern, innovative Australian cuisine complemented by an award-winning wine list. The superb seasonal menu accentuates the freshness and flavor of the best local produce. Blake’s is the ideal choice for a superb evening out for any occasion. The Adelaide Hyatt Regency has received numerous accolades for their extensive wine list. In addition to being judged Best Wine List in South Australia on numerous occasions, they have been entered into the Hall of Fame at the Australian Wine List of the Year Awards. Blake’s Restaurant & Bar is stylishly decorated with memorabilia of South Australia’s wine heritage in honor of its namesake Whiskers Blake.

Hyatt’s award-winning Japanese restaurant, Shiki, presents outstanding tempura, sushi and teppanyaki in a traditional setting of authentic Japanese decor. Guests are treated to a fascinating spectacle as talented chefs demonstrate their superb culinary techniques. You’ll be eagerly awaiting each mouth-watering course as it is masterfully prepared and presented before you. Choose from a range of set menus or an la carte menu featuring the finest fresh produce. A variety of traditional or fine Australian-made sake is also available to complement your Japanese dining experience.

DAY 2
Your driver/guide will pick you up and you will travel in comfort as you explore the city and the magnificent Adelaide hills.

First you will tour the Central Markets in Adelaide and see a large variety of fresh foods. Visit Haighs Chocolate for a special tour and tasting at their famous factory. They make the purest form of chocolate using premium cocoa beans sourced from around the world. You may do a bush food tour of the Botanic Gardens followed by a tour of the Aboriginal Cultural Gallery with an Aboriginal guide.

Travel to Mount Barker, home of Springs Smoked Salmon. Here you will meet Richard Harris, whose family has been producing smoked salmon in England for 25 years. He has carried on their traditions in Australia for over 10 years.

Lunch will be at the magnificent Bridgewater Mill, where they pride themselves on using fresh local produce. It is also the home of Petaluma wines and you have the chance to tour the Methode Champenoise cellars and taste their fine wines. An alternative may be lunch on the pond surrounded by gardens or similar.

In the afternoon you will continue to explore the hills and visit local herb, fruit and vegetable gardens and then taste some of the fine local products showcased at the Organic Markets. Also included is the nationally acclaimed Woodside cheese factory. If time permits you will visit the Beerenberg Strawberry Farm to pick your own berries or taste some of the many outstanding Adelaide Hills wines. That evening you will stay in one of the charming Orangerie (or similar) in the Adelaide hills.

DAY 3
Travel south through the Adelaide Hills to the McLaren Vale Wine Region. Nestled among the vineyards are a feast of fine and exotic foods, from almonds and olives to pheasant and venison.

Travel through the picturesque Mount Lofty Ranges, through towns like Clarendon, over the Onkaparinga River to arrive in the heart of the McLaren Vale Wine Region and to Coriole winery. Coriole’s cellar door is a beautiful little ironstone building surrounded by magnificent views and gardens. They produce an outstanding range of wines, olives, olive oils and cheeses with some exceptional wine styles unique to their winery.

Next stop, the Olive Grove. Here you will tour the olive groves and factory to learn about and taste fine kalamata olives, olive oil and various locally produced products.

Continue on with a tasting and tour at d’Arenberg winery then on to Willunga to meet Russell Jeavons, one of South Australia’s most talented chefs. He will introduce you to seasonal fresh produce of South Australia and make lunch using his wood fired oven. Russell was one of the first to introduce Dukkah to South Australia. Alternatively you may take part in a Cooking School at Chapel Hill or similar. The area boasts over 60 small wineries and many excellent food and wine producers, almond groves, venison farms, yabby and trout farms and berry farms that can be incorporated into the tour.

Finish with a visit to Medlow fine gels and chocolates before returning to Adelaide via the coast. Return to the Hyatt Regency this evening where you will overnight once more before continuing your onward journey.
