ITINERARY

Thala Beach Lodge is a privately owned five star nature resort situated 24 miles north of the city of Cairns and 10 miles south of the village of Port Douglas. Timber bungalows are scattered among 145 acres of wooded headland and secluded beaches. It is one of the world’s most beautiful private beach locations.

The deluxe timber bungalows sit on high poles and look through the tree canopy. All bungalows have views either to the ocean or the forested mountains. Time spent relaxing on the timber decked verandahs is always well rewarded by sightings of birds, butterflies or, at night, possums and sugar gliders.

Experience the tastes of the tropics surrounded by the rainforest’s splendor. A remarkable vista studded by Coral islands, reefs and mountain ranges. An early start to hear the first chorus of Thala’s birds in full song is a wonderful way to welcome a new day.

There are local experts who can take you for full day birding expeditions through a wide variety of habitats. Among rare Littoral rainforest clinging to the sandy dunes and the soft shade of eucalypts you will enjoy the scamper of native fauna. As you gaze at the lushness of rainforest clad mountains, life becomes timeless and takes on a whole new perspective. Expert guides will take you in kayaks to secret places to look for marine turtles, stingrays, dolphins and dugongs.

Take time out from adventure for a romantic picnic in a secluded spot just for two. Tune your moment to the lap of luminescent waves or the call of cicadas at sunset as you feast on seafood and champagne.

Elders from the local aboriginal community come and share their stories as passed on from previous generations including the history of their ancient cultural traditions. You will enjoy seeing and learning the value of bush tucker food, the knowledge of which has been nurtured since the age of the hunter-gatherer. The haunting rhythms of the traditional Didgeridoo is being incorporated into many forms of contemporary music, here it will take you back to the beginnings of the aboriginal Dreamtime.

You will truly enjoy a return to nature at Thala Beach Resort, where the reef meets the rainforest.
