Departing your city hotel, travel around the historic birthplace of HobartSalamanca Place, Constitution Dock and Battery Point before making your way with your experienced guide across the Tasman Bridge to the historic convict village of Richmond. En route to Port Arthur you will stop to visit the unique coastal formations of the tessellated pavement and Devils Kitchen. The settlement of Port Arthur was created to put fear and hatred into the minds of those unfortunate enough to be sent there. After a light lunch your guide will personally escort you around the ruins of the settlement, telling you tales of the hardships suffered by the convicts. Travel in the afternoon with your guide in a comfortable 4WD as you search out the animals of the night. Pass through historic Docklands area before making your way westward along the shoreline of the Derwent River. You will travel through the Hop- fields and visit a wildlife park where you will come face-to-face with Australia’s unique koalas, wombats, wallabies and kangaroos. You will make a stop at Lake Fenton and the magnificent Russell Falls. Here you will seek the elusive platypus swimming in the wild upper reaches of the Derwent River (conditions permitting).
